Antimicrobial Susceptibility Pattern of Escherichia coli from Patients with Urinary Tract Infections in a Tertiary Care Hospital

چکیده
Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common bacterial infections in humans affecting all age groups and both genders in the community and hospital (Tekin et al., 2012) after respiratory tract infection (Tekin et al., 2012; Sobel, 2000). UTIs occur in both men and women, clinical studies suggest that the overall prevalence of UTI is higher in women. Uncomplicated UTIs in healthy women have an incidence of 50/1000/year (De Backer et al., 2008). An estimated 50% of women experience at least one episode of UTI at some point in their lifetime and between 20% and 40% of women have recurrent episodes. 20% of all UTIs occur in men (Rock et al., 2007; Vasquez and Hand, 2004; Pearle et al., 2007).

Phenotypic Identification and Antibiotic Susceptibility Pattern of AmpC beta-Lactamase Producing Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae Isolated from Urinary Tract Infections from a Tertiary Care Hospital of Rawalpindi, Pakistan
Introduction: This study is aimed to compare phenotypic test methods and determine antibiotic susceptibility pattern of AmpC beta-lactamase producing uropathogenic Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae in clinical isolates. Method: E. coli and K. pneumoniae were identified by standard microbiological procedures. Screening of AmpC beta-lactamase production was done by using cefoxitin disc (...
متن کاملEvaluation of Antibiotic Susceptibility of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella spp. Isolated from Urinary Tract Infections of Patients Attending a University Hospital in Tehran
Background and Objectives: E. coli and Klebsiella spp. are recognized as most prevalent bacteria causing urinary tract infection (UTI), the most common bacterial infection. Decreasing of antimicrobial susceptibility in urinary pathogens has made difficulty in treatment of UTI. The aim of this study was to determine antibiotic susceptibility of E. coli and Klebsiella spp. isolated from urine of ...

Background and Objectives: Urinary tract infections (UTI) are one of the most common infectious diseases with different microbial agent and antimicrobial resistant pattern in hospitalized patients and outpatients. In order to assess the adequacy of therapy, knowledge of prevalence and resistance pattern of the bacteria is necessary. The main aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence and ...
متن کاملStreptococcus agalactiae-associated Urinary Tract Infections amongst Male Patients at a Tertiary Care Setting in Southwest India
Introduction: The occurrence of urinary tract infections (UTIs) caused by the group B Streptococcus (GBS) in females is well documented. On the contrary, the prevalence amongst males is infrequent, and studies from the Indian subcontinent are limited. This study aimed to determine the occurrence of GBS bacteriuria and its antibiotic susceptibility profile amongst male patients. Methods: Clean-c...

Introduction: Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) is among the primary cause of urinary tract infections (UTIs). This study was conducted to determine the antibiotic resistance pattern of E. coli isolates from UTIs in Kermanshah. Methods: In this study, 180 midstream urine samples were collected from outpatients for five months. Based on differential biochemical tests such as oxidase, Indole,...
